Originally designed as a snow ski outrigger for physically challenged skiers, it soon became apparent that the ShockShaft design worked equally well as a forearm crutch. The spring action allows the user to adjust comfortably to changing levels of terrain, shifting less body weight off balance and causing a great deal less impact to the wrists, elbows, arms and shoulders. The increased absorption radically decreases tension and the user fatigue commonly associated with the use of an ordinary crutch . Unfortunately, most crutch users have simply grown accustomed to this level of discomfort and inconvenience, merely considering it among the many disadvantages with which they must live.
