SHOCKSHAFT HISTORY
In January 1, 1993, after years of testing and research and development, MGT Healthcare Products introduced the ShockShaft F-1
Forearm Crutch to the medical world.
After careful analysis of the needs of both the short term and the long term crutch user, in conjunction with input and
feedback from medical professionals, physical therapist, orthotic and prosthetic designers, orthopedic surgeons, medical supply companies, and representatives of other durable medical equipment companies
determined this product dramatically exceeds the standard of crutch mobility and comfort. The ShockShaft F-1 presents three major advantages: A shock absorption system, a secure and
versatile cuff and an overall lightness and adjustability, unprecedented in the industry.
The dampening benefits in the shock absorption system decreases the amount of impact to the wrists, elbows, arms and
shoulders. Another area where the ShockShaft F-1
stands alone is in the cuff design. Conventional forearm crutches still incorporate a hard, metal or plastic cuff. This rigid cuff does not allow for adjustments needed to accommodate the individual differences in forearm diameter. Without the ability to make adjustments, the crutch-user is forced to grip the handle tightly in order to obtain any control. Even then, the control is very limited due to the fact that the cuff does not secure to the forearm. The
ShockShaft F-1 design, however, allows the individual to have the ability to adjust the cuff to their own specifications. User fatigue is dramatically reduced, as well as, Carpal Tunnel
Syndrome, a major problem afflicting long-term crutch users. The medical industry has been limited in crutch use and patient mobility with the crutches currently being used. With this design, individuals
no longer need to be limited in crutch use and mobility.
Until now, patients requiring crutches after any type of surgery, for either short or long term use, have been
confined to the use of conventional underarm crutches. Especially in the case of upper body surgery, this type of crutch inflicts a great deal of pain and discomfort and can prolong the time of
recovery. The ShockShaft F-1 forearm crutch can and will eliminate these problems.
